Step 3

The Vital Audit

Where is the machine failing (Brakes) and where is it excelling (Accelerators)?

Output

Scored assessment of the 10 role slots (Vital 8 + 2 Growth Drivers; 8 to 10 distinct dimensions) with Gap Analysis and 12-month no-action trajectory for each Fatal Brake at or below 0

Activities

#Activity
1Identify your 10 assessed dimensions from the Archetype × Vital 8 matrix: 2 Fatal Brakes (F), 2 Primary Accelerators (P), 2 Secondary Brakes (S), 2 Secondary Accelerators (T), 2 Growth Drivers (GD)
2Score each dimension on the 6-rung Maturity Ladder (−3 to +3; no statement scored 0, a Mode 2 dimension takes the rounded mean of its sub-questions and can be 0, Mixed; score of record per the Maturity Ladder) using structured assessment statements backed by evidence; in workshops, Likert elicitation is indicative and passes through the mandatory conversion step
3Capture each below-threshold score's evidence statement in the v5.0 tightened format: observable symptom plus the operating-reality observation that anchors it (Q-tier and Verification Status preserved)
4For each Fatal Brake at or below 0, document a 12-month untreated trajectory: what does the dimension's score do, and what does that mean for the Step 2 goal, if no intervention is applied?
5Calculate gaps against targets (F ≥ +2, P ≥ +2, S ≥ +1, T ≥ +1, GD ≥ +1) and produce the Gap Analysis output that feeds Step 3.5

The ten role slots

Fatal Brake (F)
Target ≥ +2

If negative, you cannot achieve your goal.

Primary Accelerator (P)
Target ≥ +2

Your main engines for achieving the goal.

Secondary Brake (S)
Target ≥ +1

Supporting friction points that slow progress.

Secondary Accelerator (T)
Target ≥ +1

Turbo boosters that amplify your primary engines.

Growth Driver (GD)
Target ≥ +1 (recommended)

Secondary growth dimensions for the next phase.

The roles come from the archetype (see the nine postures); the statements, from the 24 dimensions.

The Maturity Ladder

ScoreRungMeaning
+3ChampionThe benchmark. A named best example in the category — the standard others are measured against.
+2StrongA clear, reliable competitive strength. Comfortably above the bar the goal requires.
+1FunctionalWorks and contributes, at a basic adequate level.
0MixedMode 2 only. The sub-questions that help and those that hurt cancel out.
−1WeakPresent, but below what the goal needs. Partial contribution.
−2FlawedAddressed — but wrongly. There is something there, and it is the wrong thing.
−3AbsentNot there. No evidence it exists or contributes.

The ladder reads, bottom to top, as a single climb: nothing → wrong thing → not enough → works → strong → benchmark. A Mode 2 dimension at 0 sits between not enough and works: parts work, parts do not.
